About the position
The Patient Registration Specialist at Saint Alphonsus Health System is responsible for greeting patients and their families, verifying demographic and insurance information, processing payments, and ensuring a smooth pre-registration experience. This role is essential in facilitating patient access to services while maintaining compliance with regulations and organizational standards.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients and family members and verifies demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information during the pre-registration process.
- Accepts point of service payments and provides guidance for payment options.
- Enters patient information accurately into hospital information systems.
- Processes key documents to facilitate obtaining insurance information and provides payment estimates for out-of-pocket costs.
- Educates patients and families on the use of registration kiosks or online systems.
- Identifies routine issues and escalates them to the Supervisor, Patient Access.
- Processes insurance claim forms and reviews claims/accounts for complete information.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements throughout all activities.
- Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification utilizing EDI transactions and payer web access.
- Provides financial information and patient payment options, collecting appropriate patient liabilities at the point of service.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
- Prior work experience in customer service within a hospital or clinic environment preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations, and billing processes preferred.
