About the position

The Patient Relations Manager at Oak Street Health is responsible for educating patients about Medicare programs and affordable insurance options to enhance patient access to care and retention. This role serves as an insurance expert within the clinic, advocating for patients and assisting them in navigating insurance options and medical bills, particularly during Medicare's Open Enrollment period. The Patient Relations Manager also supports the care and outreach teams with Medicare-related inquiries and plays a key role in patient engagement and operational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with navigating Medicare and insurance issues, including coverage, benefits, summaries, and eligibility.
  • Serve as an internal resource in the clinic for insurance questions from providers and staff.
  • Help patients resolve medical bills inside and outside of Oak Street Health, advocating for the patient.
  • Gain the trust of patients to properly advise them on healthcare coverage.
  • Manage the welcome visit and orientation process for new patients.
  • Educate patients on applying for public benefits, such as Public Aid and Extra Help for prescription drugs.
  • Support the clinic management team with operational activities, including scheduling and billing.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and foster patient engagement through events and center tours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to quickly navigate and use multiple computer programs, including Gmail, MS Word or Google Docs, and Excel.
  • US work authorization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in non-English languages like Spanish, Polish, or Russian, as required by center demographics.
  • Experience helping patients or customers understand their insurance coverage.
  • A passion for creating unmatched patient experiences.
  • Problem-solving orientation and a flexible attitude.
  • Sales background preferred.
  • Experience with CRM systems.
