The Patient Safety, Advocacy and Risk Management Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of patient care within Temple Health. This position involves comprehensive responsibilities including data entry into the Midas Event Reporting system and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA PSRS). The specialist will be tasked with external reporting to PA PSRS and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH), as well as generating reports and conducting data analysis from these databases. A thorough understanding of the ECRI database is essential to ensure that critical information is communicated effectively to the appropriate users. In addition to data management, the specialist will review and investigate patient complaints and grievances that are submitted to the department or reported externally to the PA DOH, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Joint Commission. Utilizing just culture principles, the specialist will participate in or lead patient safety processes such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and adverse event investigations. The role also includes reviewing attorney correspondence as directed. Education and training are key components of this position. The specialist will be responsible for educating staff about department activities, RCA action plans, legal lessons learned, and best practices for patient safety and risk reduction. It is imperative that action plans developed in response to adverse events are executed and documented in accordance with Temple University Hospital, Inc. policies and standards of practice. Ultimately, the specialist will work towards enhancing patient safety, improving the quality of care, increasing patient satisfaction, and minimizing risks to Temple University Hospital, Inc. through these various activities.
