About the position

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) at the Cancer Center is responsible for ensuring a seamless and pleasant patient experience in the front office of an ambulatory clinic. This role involves patient registration, copay collection, scheduling appointments, and providing support for MyChart activation. The PSR plays a crucial role in managing patient interactions and maintaining efficient clinic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule internal and external incoming department referrals and appointments using Epic Cadence.
  • Maintain knowledge of appointment types, locations, providers, and specialties to coordinate patient itineraries.
  • Register patients during the scheduling process, including entering demographics and insurance verification.
  • Assist patients with MyChart activation and online check-in support.
  • Conduct high volume patient check-in/out and phone reception, securing necessary patient signatures.
  • Collect point of service payments including copays and deductibles as per EMR estimates.
  • Schedule follow-up diagnostic and therapeutic orders based on provider instructions.
  • Participate in department daily huddles and process improvement initiatives.
  • Establish productive relationships with providers and clinical care teams.
  • Communicate Health System policies effectively to patients and advocates.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • 1 or more years of customer service or healthcare experience.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • High level of customer service skills focusing on problem resolution.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • College coursework completed towards an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Clerical, registration, and/or customer service experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Bilingual with documented proof of competencies via language proficiency assessments.
