About the position

The Patient Service Representative I is a crucial role within the administration department, responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients in a healthcare setting. This position requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, as it involves direct interaction with patients, scheduling appointments, and managing patient information. The representative plays a key role in ensuring a smooth patient experience from check-in to check-out, while adhering to privacy policies and maintaining a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patients at the reception window and obtains required information/documentation at check-in.
  • Updates financial and family information for each patient visit in electronic medical records.
  • Schedules appointments and posts charges and payments at the time of check-out.
  • Verifies any late or open balances and reminds patients of outstanding balances.
  • Calls billing assistance to help patients with balance questions.
  • Accepts payments and secures daily collections, balancing daily transactions.
  • Maintains order in the waiting area and calls custodial staff as needed.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care's privacy policies.
  • Ensures office equipment is in good working order and notifies staff of any issues.
  • Supports Variety Care's accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and works towards healthcare reform goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Basic mathematic skills and legible handwriting.
  • Ability to work with the public and handle confidential information.
  • Basic data entry and keyboarding knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Ability to work in an active and stressful environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • One or more years of clerical experience.
  • One or more years of customer service experience.
