About the position

The Patient Service Representative I at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service to pediatric patients and their families. This part-time position involves managing patient registrations, ensuring accurate eligibility information, and facilitating communication between families and healthcare providers. The representative is responsible for handling various administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, collecting payments, and maintaining patient confidentiality while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Completes pre-registration and full registration for families.
  • Ensures eligibility information is accurate.
  • Obtains patient/family consents for care and enters them into Epic.
  • Queries for MyChart and Care Everywhere, utilizing EpicCare Link functionality as appropriate.
  • Checks if referrals are attached for visits and assists families with same-day service referrals.
  • Informs and collects payments (estimates, copays, outstanding balances, self-pay) via CCF and Health Fusion.
  • Makes copies of insurance cards as appropriate.
  • Ensures families receive appropriate intake forms and instructions for visits.
  • Prints labels for clinical use and documents to be scanned.
  • Provides ID bands to patients as appropriate.
  • Informs patient/families of any wait times or delays in service.
  • Schedules appointments (new, return, same day, and ancillary appointments) as needed.
  • Enters patient information in additional electronic systems as required.
  • Adheres to organizational Power all principles and maintains confidentiality and HIPAA rules.
  • Completes check-out procedures and prepares required forms for distribution.
  • Communicates with other Patient Service Representative staff and department team members to coordinate activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology, third-party billing, and managed care requirements strongly preferred.
  • Some knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word applications such as Outlook and other computer skills preferred.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively work with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing, and other allied health and medical center personnel.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills needed.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations appropriately.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in TCP (Therapeutic Crisis Prevention) is preferred.
