About the position

The Patient Service Representative is responsible for managing billing, follow-up, and resolving issues that may delay or prevent payment of patient accounts in accordance with Intermountain's policies and procedures. This role involves direct interaction with patients, scheduling appointments, and ensuring accurate registration and insurance verification.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and answers phones, taking messages and returning calls while documenting all interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Schedules patient appointments for visits, procedures, diagnostic tests, referrals, and consultations.
  • Registers patients, confirming and updating demographic data in the registration system.
  • Obtains copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures on required forms, verifying information for insurance coordination of benefits and pre-certification.
  • Informs self-pay patients of their liability and prepayment requirements, preparing estimates and referring eligible patients to financial counseling.
  • Collects patient payments, provides receipts, and reconciles cash collected with receipts, documenting all transactions.
  • Maintains department work queues and reports as required.
  • Prepares medical records for patient appointments by compiling necessary information and scanning records as needed.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health and adheres to service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of customer service experience involving interactions with customers in person and by phone.
  • Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and data entry.
