About the position

The Patient Service Specialist at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is responsible for conducting patient interviews during the admission process, ensuring accurate collection and verification of demographic, insurance, and financial information. This role supports hospital operations by facilitating timely billing and collection processes while maintaining a positive image for the hospital. The specialist will also coordinate referrals for financial assistance and work collaboratively with various departments and external agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with patients and families during the admission process.
  • Compile, verify, analyze, and distribute demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals for financial assistance programs.
  • Ensure accurate billing of charges and timely collection of accounts.
  • Support hospital and departmental goals to enhance operations and public image.
  • Gather necessary information for patient registration through various communication methods.
  • Obtain required signatures for consent and other necessary forms.
  • Collect payments owed and issue receipts, reconciling cash drawer daily.
  • Establish reasonable payment plans for patients based on their financial situation.
  • Act as a consultant to patients regarding payor information and resources.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve accurate and timely registration information.
  • Participate in peer audits to ensure data accuracy and quality.
  • Complete Medicare Secondary Payor (MSP) ABN forms when applicable.
  • Review accounts for accurate registration and insurance information.
  • Notify nursing services and arrange patient escorts to rooms or departments.
  • Accurately scan medical records into the HPF medical record system.

Requirements

  • AA Degree in business, healthcare, or related field required; or two years of external experience in lieu of degree.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and orally; additional languages preferred.
  • Preferred experience in collections.
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, including Word and Outlook.
