About the position

The Patient Services Coordinator at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a crucial role in scheduling patient visits, appointments, diagnostic tests, and treatments. This position serves as a communication bridge between patients, families, and healthcare providers, ensuring that all necessary information regarding appointments and preparations is conveyed accurately. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining patient records and ensuring the confidentiality of patient information while providing excellent customer service in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment, and financial counseling to patients, families, and team members.
  • Interpret and coordinate physician orders.
  • Prepare and maintain appointment templates and patient records.
  • Greet patients and assist them during wait times, addressing any issues they may have.
  • Provide patients with correct information regarding their schedules and necessary preparations for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Ensure the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Advise patients and family members of available services.
  • Schedule same-day X-Ray tests as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient wristbands during the check-in process.
  • Provide service recovery as needed based on applicable service recovery categories.
  • Update relevant patient information to maintain accurate patient records.
  • Collect, review, and reconcile patient balance collections in accordance with departmental processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of customer service experience required, with the possibility of substituting additional education for experience on a one-to-one basis.
  • Preferred: 2 Year College Degree.
  • Preferred: Experience in a patient care or healthcare administration setting.
