About the position

The Patient Services Representative at UC Health serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment. This role is essential in facilitating patient interactions, managing scheduling, and coordinating insurance and clinical processes to enhance patient care and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and assist them as they enter and leave the clinic.
  • Answer patient inquiries and provide information about services.
  • Coordinate same-day scheduling changes and assist patients in locating their destinations.
  • Contact transportation services for patients when necessary.
  • Monitor the lobby to ensure all patients are being assisted.
  • Answer telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate areas.
  • Adhere to HIPAA policies and guidelines during all patient interactions.
  • Conduct end-of-day visit reconciliation to ensure all patient visits are accounted for.
  • Initiate online verification of patient benefits and contact external groups as needed.
  • Obtain proper authorization for scheduled and non-scheduled outpatient procedures.
  • Collect and verify demographic information from new patients during registration.
  • Assist patients with MyChart enrollment and collect co-payments as required.
  • Update insurance information and complete necessary questionnaires for billing compliance.
  • Assist with referral questions and pre-visit planning, including scheduling and medical record management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • 0 - 6 months of equivalent experience required; 1 - 2 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Ability to give clear instructions to patients and involve family/guardians in care.
  • Skills in recognizing and responding to patients with behavioral health problems.
  • Ability to perform treatments, administer medication, and operate equipment safely.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards.
