About the position
The Patient Services Representative is responsible for greeting and assisting patients, visitors, and vendors, as well as registering patients for both inpatient and outpatient services. This role involves answering a multiline telephone and ensuring accurate patient demographic information is collected and verified. The representative plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and ensuring a smooth patient experience in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Greet and direct all patients, visitors, and vendors.
- Verify and accurately enter all patient demographic information, including insurance plans and eligibility.
- Address and identify patients' communication needs, contacting interpreters when necessary.
- Complete forms, obtain signatures, and scan documents into records for inpatients and outpatients.
- Collect copays, deductibles, and self-pay balances, documenting and reconciling payments at the end of the shift.
- Answer a multi-line computer-based switchboard telephone, responding to inquiries or directing calls appropriately.
- Regulate overhead paging and act as a control center for emergency situations.
- Scan, order supplies, distribute faxes, and monitor office machinery maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Patient Access Specialist Certification within one year of employment required for employees hired after 1/1/2020.
- Preferred: 3 - 6 months previous customer service experience, with healthcare experience and cash handling desired.
