About the position

The Patient Services Representative at Saratoga Springs Surgery Center is responsible for performing various business office functions related to patient registration, insurance verification, and payment processing. This role ensures that all necessary patient information is accurately captured and entered into the billing system, while also providing excellent customer service to patients and their families regarding insurance and payment issues prior to surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform general business office functions including charge capture and payment posting.
• Verify insurance eligibility and pre-authorizations for patients.
• Counsel patients and families on insurance and payment issues prior to surgery.
• Register patients and collect necessary insurance information.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket amounts at the time of service.
• Post approved adjustments to patient accounts and balance receipts.
• Answer incoming calls and respond to patient needs or direct them appropriately.
• Schedule patients into the billing system upon receipt of information from surgeon offices.
• Prepare new patient charts and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
• Perform end-of-day processes and maintain an orderly workspace.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; college degree is a plus.
• Minimum of two years front office experience in an ASC or medical office.
• Experience with medical billing applications and CPT/ICD-9 coding required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and interpret policies and regulations.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a surgical center or similar medical environment.
• Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
