About the position

The Payroll Accountant II position at North Shore Community College is responsible for processing biweekly payroll for part-time employees, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and maintaining payroll records. This role involves coordinating with various departments, verifying data accuracy, and responding to payroll inquiries from employees. The position requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll for part-time employees.
  • Review attendance reports and timesheets for accuracy.
  • Coordinate payroll processing for work-study students and non-credit adjunct faculty.
  • Enter deductions and banking information into HR/CMS.
  • Generate reports to resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Process new hires in HR/CMS, Banner, and Labor Cost Management systems.
  • Perform internal audits of time and attendance procedures.
  • Process stop payments and reissue checks as needed.
  • Maintain confidential payroll and personnel records.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding Self Service Time and Attendance.
  • Train employees on SSTA questions and concerns.
  • Compile statistical data for part-time employees.
  • Assist in gathering information for audits.
  • Scan and file payroll information.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in payroll, accounting, or auditing, or an Associate's Degree in accounting, business administration, or business management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Understanding of wage and hour laws and payroll taxes.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to give clear written and oral instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Banner and Labor Cost Management System (LCM).
  • Experience with HR/CMS State payroll system or PeopleSoft.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or business management.
