Johnson Service Group, a nationally recognized staffing firm, is seeking a Certified Payroll/Accounting Associate to join a union contractor that specializes in delivering high-quality technical solutions in complex environments. This position is temporary but has the potential to transition into a full-time role. The job is based in San Diego, CA, and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $29.00 to $31.00, depending on the candidate's experience. It is essential for candidates to have authorization to work in the United States, as the client is unable to provide current or future sponsorship. The Certified Payroll/Accounting Associate will play a crucial role in managing and reporting certified payroll, particularly focusing on prevailing wage payroll submissions to the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and various other platforms. The role also involves assisting with the onboarding process for new employees, performing accounts payable data entry, and preparing monthly billing for accounts receivable. The associate will be responsible for scanning and submitting invoices from the service department through various invoice portals, ensuring accuracy and compliance throughout the process. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience in certified payroll reporting, particularly for union projects, and familiarity with AIA pay applications and contract billing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, as well as experience with payroll processing systems like Paychex or Paynet, and accounting software such as Sage 300, is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and report prevailing wage payroll weekly to the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and various websites with accuracy.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new employees.
  • Perform accounts payable data entry.
  • Prepare and submit monthly billing for accounts receivable.
  • Scan and submit invoices from the service department or through various invoice portals.

Requirements

  • Experience with certified payroll reporting (preferably for union projects).
  • Familiarity with AIA pay applications and contract billing.
  • Knowledge of AIA pay applications and Schedule of Values (SOV) contract billing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with accounts payable data entry.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for working with internal teams and external platforms.
  • Experience in a construction, technical services, or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with payroll processing systems, including Paychex or Paynet.
  • Experience with Sage 300 for accounting tasks such as billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable management.
