About the position

The Payroll & Accounting Specialist at United Salad Co. is responsible for managing day-to-day payroll and general accounting tasks, including accounts receivable and accounts payable. This role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as the specialist will work closely with management and owners to support financial operations and reporting. The position offers opportunities for professional growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and lead the full cycle in-house payroll for approximately 600 employees bi-weekly.
  • Process off-cycle check requests for employees as needed.
  • Activate newly hired employees in the payroll system and file new hire paperwork electronically.
  • Assist with employee benefits enrollment.
  • Process employee garnishments.
  • Assist with processing accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
  • Provide management with various accounting and operational reports to assist in business decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations for financial statements preparation.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly sales rebate analysis.
  • Complete mileage and fuel tax reporting schedules on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management and assist the overall team effort as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field strongly preferred.
  • Three years' minimum experience in payroll.
  • Two years' minimum experience in A/R or A/P role.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting including federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Familiarity with employee garnishment rules and final pay laws.
  • Understanding of general ledger accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in payroll and accounting software, Adobe PDF, and MS Office products.
  • Strong data analysis skills using MS Excel (sum if, VLookup, pivot tables, date functions, etc.).
  • Ability to perform tasks accurately in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management and self-organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and reasoning abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
