About the position

The Payroll and Accounting Specialist position is a critical role within a well-established organization dedicated to supporting the community. This position involves a variety of accounting and payroll functions that are essential for the smooth operation of the financial department. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll, which includes ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time. This role also requires the completion of bank reconciliations, which is vital for maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial records. Additionally, the Payroll and Accounting Specialist will maintain general ledgers and support the accounts payable processes, ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and efficiently. In this role, the individual will work closely with other team members to ensure that all payroll and accounting functions are performed in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The position is primarily onsite, with the possibility of hybrid or remote work arrangements after the training period. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing a stable work-life balance. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity, allowing the candidate to demonstrate their skills and fit within the organization before being offered a permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll runs and create General Ledger entries associated with payroll.
  • Maintain agency fixed and expense asset sub-ledgers.
  • Prepare and process outgoing payments supporting Accounts Payable functions, including purchase orders and invoice coding.
  • Prepare checks and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain Accounts Payable vendor files.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • High School Diploma with 5 years of experience will be considered.
  • 3-5 years of payroll experience.
  • Knowledgeable with payroll and accounting software, preferably Paylocity and QuickBooks Online.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel.
