About the position

The Payroll / Accounts Payable Specialist position at Hendrickson is a combined role that focuses equally on payroll processing and accounts payable functions, with the long-term goal of transitioning to a full payroll processing role. This position is responsible for managing the payroll for multiple locations and states, ensuring accurate and timely transmission and reporting of assigned hourly and salary payrolls using ADP. The specialist will also be involved in cross-training on the full semi-monthly payroll process for various business units, adhering to established payroll policies, procedures, and regulations. In addition to payroll responsibilities, the role includes essential accounts payable functions such as verifying, posting, reconciling, recording, and processing vendor bills and timesheets. The specialist will be tasked with balancing assigned payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying discrepancies, and completing payroll journal entries. Participation in internal and external audits related to payroll requests is also a key function of this role. The position requires compliance with corporate Oracle and ADP systems, ensuring authorized pay rates are maintained based on personnel change notices for both hourly and salary personnel. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and rationalize work processes while providing quality customer service. Additional miscellaneous accounting duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and multifaceted role within the accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, transmit, and report assigned hourly/salary payrolls to ADP for multiple locations and states.
  • Cross train on the full process of semi-monthly payroll for multiple business units.
  • Follow established payroll-related policies, procedures, and regulations for the division.
  • Balance assigned payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying discrepancies, and completing payroll journal entries.
  • Participate in internal and external audits regarding payroll-related requests.
  • Comply with corporate Oracle and ADP systems with authorized pay rates from personnel change notices for both hourly and salary personnel.
  • Complete all hourly/salary payroll reporting requirements as needed.
  • Perform various accounts payable functions including verifying, posting, reconciling, recording, and processing vendor bills and timesheets.
  • Complete additional miscellaneous accounting duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting or business (required); Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in an accounts payable role.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing, payroll earnings, and regulatory deduction requirements; ADP experience preferred.
  • Skilled at using database, spreadsheet, and word processing software applications.
  • Flexibility to cross train in other accounting functions.
