About the position

The Payroll and Accounting Specialist at the Center for Immigrant & Refugee Advancement (CIRA) plays a crucial role in managing payroll functions and supporting the finance team. This position involves processing payroll, handling employee inquiries, and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll and accounting systems, with a commitment to serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze timesheets for accuracy to ensure data integrity and perform corrections as needed.
  • Process payroll bi-weekly.
  • Calculate and input employee benefit deductions and reimbursements accurately into the payroll system.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee data, tax forms, and deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and tax laws and regulations.
  • Address employee inquiries regarding paychecks and statements.
  • Conduct semi-annual payroll audits.
  • Prepare annual reports to evaluate payroll system efficiency and reliability.
  • Process invoices and ensure timely payments.
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
  • Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with the HR department regarding payroll processes.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of payroll processing experience.
  • Some A/P and bookkeeping experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in accounting or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of wage laws, payroll principles, federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Fluency in using Office 365 applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and a strong ability to learn new software is required.
  • Experience using Paycor software is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve payroll discrepancies effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
