About the position

The Payroll and Accounting Specialist at The Bluebird Group will play a crucial role in managing payroll, accounts payable, and employee expense reporting. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with relevant laws. The specialist will work closely with the HR and Accounting teams to support the financial operations of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll in BambooHR for salaried and hourly employees according to schedule.
  • Produce payroll reporting and process payroll journal entries.
  • Manage the company Expensify account and assist employees with expense-related questions.
  • Input approved employee expense reimbursements and update pay, deductions, and benefits in BambooHR as directed.
  • Audit and approve employee 401(k) contributions for transmission to the provider.
  • Register the company with applicable tax and unemployment agencies for new states as needed.
  • Create payment requests for payroll and review invoices from benefits vendors.
  • Process accounts payable in NetSuite and complete related month-end close tasks.
  • Monitor and respond to the Accounts Payable inbox and vendor phone calls.
  • Manage Accounts Payable approvals on payment requests and invoices.
  • Collect and save necessary documentation for the setup of new vendors by accounting.
  • Track and provide payroll and benefits reports to accounting for compliance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Assist with annual 1099 processing.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Accounting or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related accounting experience.
  • Tech savvy with ERP, payroll, and expense reporting systems (preferably NetSuite, BambooHR, and Expensify).
  • Fluency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly organized and deadline driven.

Nice-to-haves

  • Benefits experience preferred.
  • Payroll Certification by PayOrg, or willingness to obtain certification during the first year of employment.
