About the position

The Payroll and Benefits Assistant is a mid-level HR role that supports the Payroll, Benefits, and HRIS specialist. This position is responsible for assisting with payroll processing, benefits management, and various HR administrative tasks, ensuring smooth operations within the human resources department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with payroll processing, including time approval and submission, wage garnishments, commission and special pay calculations, tax filings, and creation and download of all necessary payroll documentation and reports.
  • Assists with benefit management including open enrollment, new hire, and life event processes, employee communications, validating elections, collecting and uploading supporting documentation, billing, reporting, and other employee benefit programs and initiatives.
  • Conducts various new hire and onboarding processes including assembling new hire packets, verifying I-9 documentation, gathering required new hire documents, and ensuring onboarding in ADP is completed.
  • Conducts New Employee Orientation and processes items on new hire, transfer, and termination checklists.
  • Updates ADP and intranet pages with announcements and updates.
  • Orders and validates name tag and business card orders.
  • Manages the labor poster program and monitors the Human Resources mailbox, responding to or forwarding questions as applicable.
  • Provides support to the training team including lunch ordering and pickup as necessary, monitoring of the training inbox, and file updates.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate Degree in business, human resources, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Payroll experience; additional HR experience preferred.
  • Strong reporting and Microsoft Excel skills required, including pivot tables, vlookups, and formulas.
  • ADP experience strongly preferred.
