About the position

The Payroll and Benefits Clerk at Hingham Public Schools is responsible for managing payroll and benefits processes, acting as a liaison for benefits inquiries, and ensuring compliance with legal and departmental requirements. This full-time position requires strong organizational skills and proficiency in Excel, with a focus on maintaining accurate records and assisting employees with various HR-related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the School Department liaison for all benefits.
  • Maintain knowledge of benefits allowable in all contracts, guidelines, and bargaining units.
  • Collaborate with the Town’s Benefits Coordinator to respond to benefits-related questions.
  • Assist with the annual benefits Open Enrollment fair in conjunction with the Town Accountant's office.
  • Act as a backup for payroll processing.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and accumulated sick and vacation days balances for all eligible employees.
  • Process and manage unemployment and workers' compensation matters.
  • Reconcile monthly MTRS and 403B reports.
  • Obtain complete employee file documentation in accordance with legal and department compliance requirements.
  • Generate accurate and complete reports including headcount, attendance, life events, terminations/turnover, leaves of absence, cost of leaves, pay/insurance premiums owed during leave, dates of service/seniority, benefits, sick leave bank, longevity, vacation pay, counselors' extra days' pay, grant paid.
  • Compute leave of absence pay.
  • Maintain accurate computer records and personnel files.
  • Understand, implement, and communicate contract terms, especially in relation to benefits eligibility, retirement, time off, and work schedules.
  • Assist employees with retirement documentation.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Manage and oversee leaves of absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, human resources, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with Human Resources and Payroll processes required.
  • Proficiency in use of Excel required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MUNIS and Frontline preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $65,000 to $70,000 per year.
  • Full-time position with benefits as per Hingham Public Schools policies.
