About the position

The Payroll Associate position at the Kings County District Attorney's Office involves managing payroll and timekeeping for over 1,000 employees. The role includes verifying payroll accuracy, processing payments, and providing customer service related to time and leave management. The associate will also assist in training new employees and maintain filing systems, contributing to the overall efficiency of the Payroll Management & Timekeeping Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy of payroll reports.
  • Distribute paychecks and payroll-related documents.
  • Process one-time payments and deductions.
  • Handle check refunds, EFT stops, and reversals.
  • Process direct deposit Eforms.
  • Perform customer service functions related to time and leave processing.
  • Setup new employees and maintain schedules in CityTime.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and timekeeping.
  • Assist in training new employees and supervisors in CityTime applications.
  • Enroll employees into CityTime DCD hand scanners.
  • Serve as Commuter Benefits Liaison and Direct Deposit Liaison.
  • Maintain filing systems for active and inactive employees.
  • Review and process DP2001's for transferring employees.
  • Manage unit email box and main phone line for communications.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
  • Education above the high school level may be substituted for general clerical/administrative experience at a rate of 30 semester credits for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years of experience with payroll-related functions.
  • Proficiency in NYC-specific payroll systems (PMS, NYCAPS, CityTime, CHRMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
