About the position

The Payroll & Benefits Administrator at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis plays a crucial role in the Administration & Finance department, responsible for processing payroll and managing employee benefits. This position ensures accurate payroll processing, maintains payroll records, and serves as a liaison between employees and benefits providers, while also assisting with additional accounting duties.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly and seasonal weekly payrolls in a timely manner, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with payroll items.
  • Maintain current and accurate payroll records for all employees.
  • Process and submit all union pay according to collective bargaining agreements, maintaining clear records of union-related filings.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources regarding new employees and coordinate employment changes.
  • Complete requests for employment verification, payroll garnishment, and unemployment claims.
  • Act as primary liaison to payroll and benefits vendors and providers.
  • Perform the role of 401(k) Plan Administrator and manage related duties.
  • Coordinate the administration of employee benefit programs, including managing open enrollment periods and communicating benefit information.
  • Serve as a primary contact for employee payroll and benefits-related questions, providing high-quality internal customer service.
  • Conduct research, create reports, and provide information to the Controller and Director of Administration & Finance about payroll and benefits.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in accounting or related field.
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience or a satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Strong payroll and benefits administration experience, preferably with third-party payroll management systems like Paychex.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with at least one accounting package.
  • Experience working with union payroll is preferred.

  • Pay Range: $53,000 - $56,000 Annual
