About the position

The Payroll and Benefits Coordinator at Cascadia College is responsible for overseeing the benefits function related to payroll processing. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and compliance of benefits data, assisting with payroll tasks, and promoting an inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of students and staff. The position requires a commitment to equity and social justice, as well as collaboration with the Human Resource team.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process benefit documents and deduction forms.
  • Consult on payroll and benefits issues, including changes and deductions.
  • Analyze, verify, and correct benefit data in CtcLink (PeopleSoft) and the Health Care Authority site.
  • Interpret and administer rules and regulations for benefits and retirement eligibility.
  • Assist HR with benefits orientation and provide information regarding various benefits.
  • Support annual Open Enrollment and coordinate with payroll for benefit changes.
  • Track and monitor benefit eligibility for part-time employees and faculty.
  • Audit part-time hourly reports for compliance with benefit eligibility.
  • Reconcile insurance billing and retirement reports as required.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding benefit rules and policies.
  • Assist the Payroll team with timely processing of benefit information and payroll confirms.
  • Create and maintain instructions on payroll and benefit procedures for employees.
  • Prepare and maintain individual employee benefit files.
  • Calculate supplemental retirement benefits and coordinate with the State Board for eligibility.
  • Serve as backup for Payroll Coordinator as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years of fiscal or payroll/benefits experience or equivalent combination of experience and college-level courses.
  • Knowledge of payroll/benefit laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or higher level of education.
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or ctcLink.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
