About the position

The Payroll & Benefits Manager at Millsaps College is responsible for overseeing the payroll and benefits administration for all employees. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of payroll processes, benefits management, and compliance with federal and state regulations. The manager will ensure that payroll is processed accurately and on time, while also managing employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee perks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll systems and benefits administration, with the ability to analyze data and provide insights to improve processes and employee satisfaction. In addition to managing payroll and benefits, the Payroll & Benefits Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures related to payroll and benefits. This includes maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and providing training and support to staff regarding payroll and benefits issues. The manager will also serve as a point of contact for employees with questions or concerns about their payroll or benefits, ensuring that all inquiries are addressed promptly and effectively. The role requires collaboration with various departments within the college, including Human Resources, Finance, and Administration, to ensure that payroll and benefits processes align with the college's overall goals and objectives. The Payroll & Benefits Manager will also stay current with industry trends and best practices to ensure that Millsaps College remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to payroll and benefits administration.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and benefits records in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provide training and support to staff regarding payroll and benefits issues.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Administration departments to align payroll and benefits processes with college goals.
  • Analyze payroll and benefits data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and benefits management.
  • Familiarity with federal and state payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in payroll or benefits administration (e.g., CPP, CBP).
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll software systems.
  • Knowledge of employee relations and labor laws.
