About the position

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist at Southeast Community College is responsible for managing payroll processes and employee benefits administration. This role involves ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining compliance with tax regulations, and providing support for employee benefits enrollment and management. The specialist will work closely with various departments to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll, including printing paychecks and direct deposit advice.
• Communicate with employees regarding their benefits and assist with enrollment.
• Verify payroll documentation and ensure data accuracy before processing changes.
• Prepare and file W-2 tax forms and other state and federal labor reports.
• Manage leave accruals and process entries for the Catastrophic Leave Bank.
• Assist with employee benefits reconciliation and payments to providers.
• Maintain payroll records and assist in developing the Payroll Procedures Manual.
• Provide oversight to other clerks in the business office working with payroll.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or two years of post-secondary coursework in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
• Three years of work experience in Accounting, Finance, Payroll, Benefits, or a related field.
• Proficiency in basic math functions and calculator usage.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to proof, edit, and sort data.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP).
• Payroll/Accounting work experience in a higher education institution.
• Knowledge of the College's payroll and accounting software.
