About the position

The Payroll/Benefits Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer to administer the District's payroll and benefits functions. This includes developing reporting procedures and internal controls, implementing procedures and processes, and ensuring the accuracy of payroll and benefits-related data while complying with all requirements and guidelines. The role involves inputting and processing payroll and benefit information, maintaining the direct deposit system, coordinating with personnel for payroll and benefit services, and ensuring timely completion of municipal, federal, and state reporting requirements. The specialist will also recommend policies and procedures, research discrepancies, prepare annual tax information, and compose various materials for documentation purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the District's payroll and benefits functions.
  • Develop reporting procedures and internal controls.
  • Implement procedures and processes for payroll and benefits.
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll and benefits-related data.
  • Input and process payroll/benefit information.
  • Maintain direct deposit system for payroll checks.
  • Coordinate with personnel for payroll/benefit services.
  • Maintain reporting procedures for municipal, federal, and state requirements.
  • Implement assigned programs and projects.
  • Recommend policies and procedures for payroll/benefit objectives.
  • Research discrepancies in payroll/benefit information.
  • Update payroll/benefit information annually.
  • Prepare and distribute annual tax information (W-2 statements).
  • Input attendance information for reporting.
  • Compose reports, memos, letters, and manuals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Course work in business, math, accounting, bookkeeping, and record keeping.
  • Some successful payroll/benefit processing experience preferred.
