About the position

Aston Carter is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join a large company in Kansas City, Missouri. This role is pivotal in managing the day-to-day administration of all benefit and retirement plans for both current and new employees. The specialist will be responsible for year-end payroll administration, which includes the preparation and reconciliation of tax documents. Additionally, the role supports the annual open enrollment process, ensuring effective communication delivery, system testing, employee support, election monitoring, and enrollment audits. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will serve as the primary resource for leave administration and will collaborate with the finance team to prepare, reconcile, and submit all monthly benefit and retirement plan invoices for payment. This position also involves partnering with third-party auditors and administrators to conduct annual carrier audits, compliance testing, and required reporting and filings, which encompass medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and ACA compliance. Ensuring timely payment for exempt and non-exempt employees in accordance with company, state, and federal payroll standards is a critical responsibility. The specialist will maintain and update the HR information system daily to reflect new hires and employee status changes, including pay rate changes, promotions, department transfers, title changes, and personal information updates. Furthermore, the role requires ensuring ongoing data integrity of HR systems through various audits, monitoring data input/output, tracking data entry errors, and making recommendations for process improvements. The specialist will also act as a resource for employees, addressing questions related to payroll and benefits and providing timely follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all benefit and retirement plans for current and new employees.
  • Manage year-end payroll administration, including tax document preparation and reconciliation.
  • Support the annual open enrollment process, including communication delivery, system testing, employee support, election monitoring, and enrollment audits.
  • Serve as the primary resource for leave administration.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of start-to-finish payroll processing experience.
  • 2+ years of benefits administration experience.
  • Experience with Workday or ADP is a plus.
  • Payroll processing experience for California is a plus.
