About the position

M. Stanley Metz & Co., Inc. is seeking a dedicated Payroll Processor to join our Payroll Department. The ideal candidate will be an organized and proactive individual with excellent time management skills and a keen attention to detail. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $21, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes profit sharing, health insurance, dental insurance, and paid time off. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing for a consistent day shift experience. As a Payroll Processor, you will be responsible for entering, maintaining, and processing payroll information in our system. This includes managing employees' hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, time worked, paid leave, and deductions. You will ensure the accurate processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other contributions, and reconcile payroll with the general ledger and monthly bank statements. Additionally, you will issue checks or direct deposits, record federal and state payroll tax deposits, assist with quarterly payroll tax filings, and file worker's compensation and general liability audits on behalf of our clients. This role requires a high level of accuracy and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system, including employees' hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and additional information.
  • Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, wage garnishments, and other deductions.
  • Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
  • Issues, reissues, physical or replacement checks, or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits as needed.
  • Assists with quarterly payroll tax filings.
  • Files worker's compensation and general liability audit on behalf of the clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to quickly learn payroll software.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six months of experience in payroll preferred.
