About the position

The Payroll Clerk position at the District Office of CENTENNIAL SD 28J is a part-time role requiring 4 hours of work each day from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, operating on a schedule of 260 days per year, from July to June. The salary for this position ranges from $25.28 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The starting date for this position is September 30, 2024, or when filled, and applications are accepted until the position is filled. The primary purpose of the Payroll Clerk is to process the District's payroll under supervision. This includes the preparation of paychecks, direct deposits, payroll liability payments, and the necessary quarterly and annual reports. The role requires ensuring the accuracy and compliance of reports, time sheets, and spreadsheets, as well as the accurate distribution of programs and funds. The Payroll Clerk will also provide Federal, State, and District personnel with the information necessary for the timely and accurate payment of district employees. Essential job functions include processing payroll information such as time sheets and employee benefits, reconciling reports and account balances for quarterly and annual reporting, preparing various reports for governmental agencies, monitoring employee status for accurate payroll distribution, and maintaining payroll information for compliance and audit purposes. The Payroll Clerk will assist employees with inquiries regarding payroll procedures and must be knowledgeable about employment agreements, labor laws, and payroll documents. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the completion of work activities within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll information including time sheets, account numbers, and employee benefits.
  • Reconcile reports and account balances for quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Prepare various reports for governmental agencies and district payroll.
  • Monitor employee status for accurate distribution of funds and payroll.
  • Maintain payroll information for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Assist employees with inquiries regarding payroll procedures.
  • Read and comply with employment agreements and labor laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Two years of responsible payroll experience preferred.
  • Skill in the use of 10-key, Word, Excel, and other office computer applications.
  • Ability to use Infinite Visions or learn this accounting program.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain organized physical and electronic filing systems.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods and use a computer and keyboard for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with a full-cycle payroll system preferred.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
