About the position

The Payroll Clerk/Bookkeeper position at Fremont RE-2 School District involves managing the payroll function under the supervision of the Director of Business Services. The role focuses on ensuring accurate payroll processing, compliance with regulations, and maintaining internal controls. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to handle payroll-related discrepancies effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the school district's payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Input and process payroll information according to established practices.
  • Authorize manual payroll checks to resolve issues and meet special compensation requirements.
  • Maintain payroll processing system information regarding federal and state taxes and deductions.
  • Set up and maintain the direct deposit system for payroll checks.
  • Coordinate with district personnel to maintain payroll services and programs.
  • Develop reporting procedures and internal controls for municipal, federal, and state reporting requirements.
  • Research discrepancies in payroll information and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Update payroll information annually as needed, including changes to wages and deductions.
  • Prepare and distribute annual tax information, such as W-2 statements.
  • Maintain timesheets in Time and Attendance Frontline and input attendance information for reporting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws and related regulations.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to perform complex arithmetic operations and use calculators.
  • Ability to understand and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to problem-solve job-related issues.
  • Ability to process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
