About the position

The Payroll Compliance Specialist at Onni Group is responsible for ensuring that payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly in California. This role involves maintaining accurate payroll records, auditing payroll submissions, and resolving payroll discrepancies while collaborating closely with payroll and HR teams to ensure compliance with labor and tax laws.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular audits of payroll data, timekeeping systems, and employee records to ensure compliance with all relevant labor and tax laws.
• Accurately enter and maintain payroll data, including new hires, terminations, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll-related adjustments.
• Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll laws, ensuring compliance with wage and hour regulations, tax requirements, and garnishments.
• Generate reports for internal stakeholders and government agencies, including payroll summaries, tax filings, and compliance reports.
• Identify and assist with resolving payroll discrepancies, including underpayments, overpayments, and non-compliance to policy with employees.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll documentation and ensure that payroll records are properly filed for audit purposes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in payroll processing or a related role.
• Strong understanding of federal and state payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws, tax laws, and garnishment rules.

Nice-to-haves

• Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred but not required.
• Experience with payroll compliance or auditing preferred.
