About the position

The Payroll Garnishment Specialist is responsible for processing various employee garnishments, including child support, tax levies, and bankruptcies. This role acts as a liaison between agencies, courts, and third-party providers, ensuring timely setup and remittance of garnishment orders. The specialist will also handle inquiries related to payroll and garnishments, maintain garnishment rules in the payroll system, and work on special projects such as account reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Process employee garnishments including child support, tax levies, student loans, and bankruptcies.
• Act as a liaison between agencies, courts, and third-party providers.
• Ensure timely setup of garnishment orders and notification to applicable parties.
• Remit payments in a timely manner and resolve exceptions to completion.
• Review and set up all garnishment orders, including preparation of orders and correspondence.
• Maintain garnishment rules in the payroll system and conduct research to determine proper withholding.
• Write, review, and process reports to automate answer letters and interrogatory responses.
• Maintain garnishment screens by entering applicable start and stop dates for each order.
• Answer and resolve payroll and garnishment questions for courts, agencies, and employees.
• Interact with various departments to resolve issues and answer questions.
• Process lump sum payments and determine withholding amounts for bonuses and other payments.
• Work on special projects including account reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.

Requirements

• Experience in payroll processing and garnishments.
• Knowledge of state rules regarding garnishments and withholdings.
• Strong communication skills to interact with courts, agencies, and employees.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail for accurate processing and reconciliation.
