About the position

The Payroll and HR Generalist at Winchendon Public Schools plays a crucial role in supporting both the business office and human resources departments. This full-time position involves assisting in various payroll and personnel functions to ensure the smooth operation of staff management throughout their employment lifecycle. The Generalist will work collaboratively with different departments to maintain compliance with payroll regulations and provide support to employees regarding payroll and HR inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Create new employee records in Harpers Payroll Software, including job/salary, and verify deduction records with the town treasurer's office.
  • Process bi-weekly and miscellaneous payrolls, gathering, reviewing, and entering timesheets and special pays as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation, quality review, and maintenance of Datasheets.
  • Assist with the enrollment of new employees in the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System (MTRS) and complete all retirement forms and reports.
  • Maintain a filing system for overtime, coverage time, and additional compensation time sheets.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Assistant and Business Office to maintain records of staff changes.
  • Calculate payroll adjustments due to separations or Leaves of Absences.
  • Maintain records for contract-related special pay and stipends in district-maintained Data Sheets.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all payroll documents for new employees.
  • Conduct new hire processing and onboarding for all District employees.
  • Process requests for employment verifications and assist with yearly letters for Unit E, Unit A, PTS.
  • Support the hiring and onboarding of daily substitutes and student teachers.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations with tact and composure.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws regarding payroll regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Harpers Payroll software, Frontline Absence Management, and PowerSchool: TalentEd Applicant Tracking.
