About the position

The Payroll & HR Operations Manager will play a crucial role in the HR team of a boutique investment management firm located in downtown Boston. This position is responsible for overseeing the payroll process for hourly, salaried, and temporary employees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and making necessary adjustments to pay. The manager will execute both on-cycle and off-cycle payments, which includes preparing bonus accruals and other supplemental compensation payments. The role also involves implementing and maintaining payroll best practices to enhance efficiency and collaborating with the HR team to improve payroll and HRIS processes. In addition to payroll processing, the Payroll & HR Operations Manager will maintain employee records in payroll and HRIS systems, as well as in personnel files. The manager will produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports related to payroll and HR data, and coordinate projects and reporting with the Senior HR Analyst Data & Analytics. Year-end reporting, including the accurate processing of W-2s, is also a key responsibility. The manager will draft and update payroll guidelines, ensuring compliance with all governmental regulatory mandates and overseeing the timely performance of filings by Third Party Administrators. Furthermore, the role includes managing unemployment claims to ensure accurate processing and payment, as well as benefits administration and support of compensation operations, which involves maintaining data and preparing annual Total Rewards statements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process payroll for hourly, salaried, and temporary employees, including administering regulatory requirements and adjustments to pay.

  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to gain efficiencies and consult with the HR team to improve payroll and HRIS processes.
  • Maintain employee records in payroll/HRIS systems and personnel files.
  • Produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports pertaining to payroll and HR data.
  • Coordinate projects and reporting with the Senior HR Analyst Data & Analytics.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting including W-2's.
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by drafting and updating policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental regulatory mandates and timely performance of filings by Third Party Administrators.
  • Manage unemployment claims to ensure timely and accurate handling of processing and payment.
  • Oversee benefits administration.
  • Support Compensation operations by maintaining data, ensuring market data composites are up to date, and helping prepare annual Total Rewards statements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of HR experience, including at least two years of payroll experience.
  • ADP experience preferred but not required.
