About the position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking a Payroll/HR Specialist to join their Human Resources Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of time and absence data entered into the Cardinal Human Capital Management (HCM) system. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for time and leave management processes, providing support to employees and supervisors while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity of time and absence/leave data entered by staff into the Cardinal HCM system.
  • Serve as first line support and subject matter expert for HCM Time and Leave/Absence Management processes.
  • Coordinate with division Leave Coordinators to verify eligible and ineligible absences.
  • Review Cardinal time, attendance, and leave transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform research to compare and correct time reporting codes for job data.
  • Monitor time and leave/absence management data for administrative and quality assurance purposes.
  • Collaborate with Benefits to respond to employee inquiries regarding leave and compensation programs.
  • Work with employees and supervisors to resolve errors and transaction requests.
  • Provide guidance and customer service regarding time entry and leave policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of basic business principles and payroll processing practices.
  • Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, and reconcile data in written and verbal form.
  • Experience in human resources with knowledge of timekeeping practices and personnel policies.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and experience of Virginia Workers' Compensation, Family and Medical Leave, and disability programs.
  • Experience using Cardinal or similar automated time and leave management systems.
