About the position

Lycoming College is seeking a Payroll / HRIS Specialist to join its Human Resources team. This role is crucial as it serves as the primary payroll administrator for the institution, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of regular and special payrolls, as well as tax reporting. The Payroll / HRIS Specialist will also be responsible for administering the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), making this position integral to the HR department. The successful candidate will provide support in various HR functions, including benefits administration, workers' compensation, and leave administration, among others. The Payroll / HRIS Specialist will play a key role in supporting the college's mission and strategic plan by ensuring that payroll processes are efficient and compliant with all relevant regulations. In this role, the Payroll / HRIS Specialist will be responsible for processing and auditing biweekly and monthly payroll, preparing deposits for federal, state, and local payroll taxes, and completing the annual W-2 form process. The specialist will also create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for payroll processes, complete the Annual ACA reporting, and coordinate responses to unemployment claims in collaboration with other HR staff members. Additionally, the specialist will serve as the primary administrator of the HRIS system and act as the main point of contact for Student Employment, while also assisting in the coordination of the college's rental properties.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and auditing biweekly and monthly payroll
  • Preparing deposits for federal, state, and local payroll taxes
  • Preparing and completing the annual W-2 form process
  • Creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for payroll processes
  • Completing the Annual ACA reporting
  • Coordinating and responding to unemployment claims in conjunction with other HR staff members
  • Serving as the primary administrator of the HRIS system
  • Serving as the primary point person for Student Employment
  • Assisting in the College's rental property coordination.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or bachelor's preferred
  • 2-5 years of payroll and HRIS administration experience, or a combination of relevant HR and payroll experience
  • Prior experience working with Colleague, Ellucian, and/or Kronos systems strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and tax reporting procedures, including ACA reporting and W-2 generation
  • Strong understanding of and the ability to navigate human resources information systems, including running reports and generating queries
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Accurate and efficient data-entry skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently to accomplish duties
  • Critical thinking skills to proactively identify potential efficiencies, find potential errors or areas of risk, and develop solutions to address challenges or mitigate risks
  • Commitment to a customer-service approach to handling employee and student inquiries
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to create coherent, professional documentation for employees and supervisors regarding payroll procedures
  • Commitment to working productively in a team environment and willingness to aid others in the department and across the campus
  • Commitment to proactively keeping up with changing payroll and tax laws and regulations and continuing growth in knowledge.
