About the position

The Payroll & HRIS Specialist at Steel Technologies LLC is responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring accurate data entry, and maintaining compliance with payroll regulations. This role involves processing payroll, managing time and attendance systems, and providing support for HRIS functions. The specialist will also handle unemployment correspondence, garnishments, and assist in training new hires within the payroll department.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll including entering new hires and terminations, tracking personnel changes, and generating weekly reports.
  • Setup new tax codes in the payroll system.
  • Process monthly and quarterly off-cycle bonus payrolls and provide accurate counts for plant bonuses.
  • Data entry for monthly base wage increases for hourly teammates.
  • Create and manage access to the Time and Attendance system based on plant accommodations.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot errors in the Time and Attendance system.
  • Setup new timeclocks as needed for the plants.
  • Respond to unemployment correspondences and participate in appeals calls.
  • Audit and process PTO balance payouts for hourly teammates.
  • Administer payroll cards and provide monthly activity reports to Finance.
  • Maintain personnel files and perform verifications of employment.
  • Calculate and process garnishments through the payroll software system.
  • Provide departmental support and training for new hires and assist with system upgrades.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Payroll, or a related field preferred.
  • Two to four years of related work experience in payroll or HRIS functions.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of payroll taxes and HRIS setup tables.
  • Excellent computer software skills, with knowledge of UltiPro, Kronos, and UKG being a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work under pressure.
