About the position

We are looking for a Payroll Manager in Pasadena, CA, for a hybrid position to lead our payroll team. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our payroll expenses and taxes are processed accurately and on time. This role involves supervising a payroll team of four and collaborating with other professionals to maintain compliance with payroll regulations. The pay scale for this position ranges from $100,000 to $140,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The Payroll Manager will oversee the payroll processing for over 5,000 employees, ensuring that all payroll changes, such as new hires, terminations, and raises, are accurately reflected in the payroll system. This position requires multistate payroll experience and proven leadership skills, as the manager will be responsible for managing a team of 3-4 payroll specialists. The Payroll Manager will also coordinate with auditors for SOX compliance and assist with internal and external audits. In addition to payroll processing, the Payroll Manager will work closely with the Human Resources department to ensure that all payroll-related matters, including worker's compensation and multiple worksite location reports, are handled efficiently. Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP Vantage or WFN is essential, along with strong organizational and leadership skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field is required, along with a CPP designation. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as union contracts, and possess strong Excel and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a payroll team of 4 employees.
  • Ensure payroll expenses and taxes are processed accurately and on time.
  • Manage payroll processing for over 5,000 employees.
  • Handle payroll changes including new hires, terminations, and raises.
  • Coordinate with auditors for SOX compliance and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on payroll-related matters.
  • Prepare and submit payroll files to ADP on a weekly/biweekly basis.

Requirements

  • Proven 3+ years of experience as a payroll manager.
  • Multistate payroll experience is required.
  • Proven leadership experience managing a payroll team.
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP Vantage or WFN.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of labor and payroll tax laws.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • CPP designation is required.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and union contracts.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills.
