About the position

As the Payroll Manager at Compass Group, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team within a fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment. This position is based in Charlotte, NC, and offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work. You will be responsible for overseeing payroll processes, managing volume, and identifying and resolving issues that arise. Your leadership will be crucial in establishing and implementing new procedures that ensure sustainability and efficiency in payroll operations. In this role, you will develop plans to measure the success of the procedures you implement, sharing these insights with your team and management. You will be tasked with planning and executing support deliverables while collaborating with other teams to enhance processes, tools, quality metrics, and methodologies. Effective communication will be key, as you will need to escalate issues and keep management informed about the status of deliverables. A significant part of your responsibilities will involve developing your team members, coaching them to build new and improved skill sets. You will work closely with other payroll managers and the business systems (SAP) team to share information and address issues related to time management systems and submission methods. Your ability to coordinate multiple deliverables simultaneously will be essential, as will your application of root cause analysis and preventative solutions. You will also assist the department in achieving its goals and ensuring that all service level agreements (SLAs) are met. Additionally, you will coordinate communication to field users regarding payroll changes, initiatives, and issues, while maintaining customer satisfaction strategies to achieve continuous improvement in survey results.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the team regarding payroll processes, volume management, issue identification and resolution
  • Establish and implement new procedures as dictated by issues and controls needed for sustainability
  • Develop plan to measure success of procedures implemented to share with team and management
  • Responsible for planning and executing the support deliverables
  • Collaborate with other teams to improve process, tools, quality metrics, and methodology
  • Escalate issues and communicate the status of deliverables to management
  • Develop team members and coach them where needed to help build new and improved skill sets
  • Work closely with other payroll managers and business systems (SAP) team to share information and address issues to include time management systems and other time submission methods
  • Coordinate multiple and simultaneous deliverables
  • Apply root cause/preventative solution methodology
  • Assist department in achieving departmental and company goals
  • Ensure all SLAs are achieved
  • Coordinate communication to field users regarding Payroll changes/initiatives/issues
  • Maintain and implement Customer Satisfaction strategies to achieve year on year improvement on survey

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related subject
  • CPP preferred
  • Minimum 7 years business experience, including at least 3 years call center related experience
  • Experience working in a high volume payroll environment with more than 5000 employees across multiple states
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible people management experience
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP HR, payroll, and accounting systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with a demonstrated ability to use Access
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple teams in requirements, testing and other activities
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a payroll environment
  • Commitment to quality, self-motivated/can work independently
  • Ability to work in a confidential environment
