About the position

The Payroll Processing Manager at RR Donnelley is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the payroll preparation and processing for a large, multi-company centralized payroll department. This position is crucial for managing multi-frequency payrolls for approximately 18,000 employees across the United States. The Payroll Processing Manager will critically review and analyze current payroll procedures, recommending and implementing changes that lead to best-practice operations. Compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and requirements is a key aspect of this role, ensuring that all payroll activities are conducted within legal frameworks. In this remote position, with a preference for candidates located in Chicago, IL and surrounding areas, the Payroll Processing Manager will collaborate closely with various departments, including Human Resources, Benefits, IT, and Compensation teams. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying process improvements and system enhancements, effectively managing change to optimize payroll operations. The manager will also serve as the lead administrator for payroll processing, ensuring that all payroll is paid accurately and timely, and that all required reporting is delivered. This position demands strong leadership skills, as the Payroll Processing Manager will manage a team of payroll processing professionals, coaching team members and providing feedback to enhance performance. The manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements, providing customer support to HR, managers, and employees to resolve payroll-related issues, and maintaining confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll information.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure payroll is paid accurately and timely, and that all required reporting is delivered.
  • Ensure that daily quality and control measures are followed and end-to-end processes are met according to policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the payroll processing team and their duties and responsibilities.
  • Coach team members and provide feedback to strengthen and/or improve performance dimensions.
  • Ensure payroll processing and related payroll activities comply with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Provide customer support to HR, managers, and employees to resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Be proactive in identifying process improvements, and system enhancements and effectively managing the change.
  • Work directly with IT leaders for system enhancements and testing.
  • Lead administrator for payroll processing.

Requirements

  • High School or GED with a minimum of seven (7) years of payroll experience in a multi-company payroll department, with two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience managing a team of about 5-7 individuals preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft HRMS and Payroll for North America 9.2 preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information required.
