About the position

The Payroll Manager at Mastronardi Produce is responsible for maintaining the HRIS and ensuring accurate payroll processing. This role involves overseeing payroll reconciliation, compliance with governmental requirements, and managing the payroll team across the US and Canada. The Payroll Manager will also handle complex payroll issues and disputes, focusing on strategic initiatives to enhance payroll operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs.
  • Solicit customer feedback to improve service.
  • Manage implementations of HRIS and labor system changes and upgrades.
  • Oversee payroll processing within both the US and Canada.
  • Responsible for oversight and reconciliation of, filing and maintenance of employer/employee tax returns for federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Conduct procedural reviews of wage and hour laws and company policies to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with all levels of management to address HRIS-related matters.
  • Establish and maintain controls to verify the integrity of payroll systems, processes, and data.
  • Focus on strategic initiatives and review complex payroll issues, serving as project lead for resolution.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • At least five years' experience managing a multi-state in-house payroll department.
  • FPC or CPP certification required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with multi-state tax reporting at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying federal and state laws.
  • Proficient with MS Office products, especially Excel, and multi-faceted HRIS (UKG).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with vendors, clients, and employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
