About the position

The Payroll Manager position at Precision Castparts Corp. is a critical role responsible for managing multi-state payroll functions specifically for the Wyman Gordon Division. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of payroll processes, including auditing and reviewing payroll applications, 401K administration, and conducting benefit audits. The Payroll Manager will oversee the payroll staff, ensuring that all processes related to new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations are executed accurately and in a timely manner. This role also involves critically reviewing and analyzing payroll benefit tax procedures to recommend and implement best practices, as well as supervising the fiscal and calendar year-end processing of payroll, W-2 forms, and other government-required documentation. In addition to these responsibilities, the Payroll Manager will be tasked with auditing payroll year-to-date figures, fringe benefits, and other company codes for the Wyman Gordon Division. The position requires the completion of month-end reconciliations for payroll liability accounts and active communication with various locations regarding payroll deadlines and changes. Training team members and creating training documentation on systems, procedures, and policies is also a key aspect of this role. The Payroll Manager will perform Sarbanes Oxley audits as required and work closely with both internal and external auditors. Furthermore, the position involves controlling the ADP master file and managing any changes to custom calculations and feeds across all company codes, as well as preparing management reports as needed. Overall, this position is essential for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of payroll operations within the organization, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multi-state payroll functions for the Wyman Gordon Division.
  • Audit and review complete payroll applications, 401K administration, and benefit audits.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations processes.
  • Supervise the Division payroll staff and coordinate their activities.
  • Critically review and analyze payroll benefit tax procedures to recommend and implement best practices.
  • Supervise fiscal and calendar year-end processing of payroll, W-2 forms, and other government-required documentation.
  • Audit payroll year-to-date, fringe benefits, and other company codes for accuracy.
  • Complete month-end reconciliations for payroll liability accounts.
  • Communicate actively with locations regarding payroll deadlines and changes.
  • Train team members and create training documentation on systems, procedures, and policies.
  • Perform Sarbanes Oxley audits as required for the payroll department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or finance, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Seven years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment with a minimum of 2,000 employees on payroll.
  • Basic knowledge of Division time, attendance, and pay policies, as well as state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Previous experience with automated payroll systems, including data entry, is strongly preferred; knowledge of ADP payroll system is desirable.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Ability to effectively supervise team members and organize work activities for the team.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and implement process improvements.
  • Strong customer service skills and organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance is a plus.
