About the position

The Payroll Manager at N.B. West Contracting is responsible for overseeing the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role involves managing payroll workflows, supervising payroll staff, and addressing payroll-related inquiries while maintaining a focus on detail and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate payroll transactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to salary and union pay rates.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate records and reports of payroll transactions, including certified payrolls and tax forms.
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies using multiple platforms to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Assist with Collective Bargaining Agreement compliance.
  • Process MoDOT required certified payroll and workforce reporting.
  • Facilitate union and insurance audits by providing necessary records and documentation.
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software and procedures.
  • Supervise and manage payroll support personnel, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in payroll functions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Preferred).
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or equivalent experience (Preferred but not required).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll management or payroll support roles (Preferred).
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role (Preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, reconciliation, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Familiarity with union contracts and benefit processing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with payroll processing software and systems.
  • Knowledge of Missouri Wage and Hour laws.
