About the position

The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the payroll and rewards strategy to attract, engage, and retain top talent. This role manages all aspects of payroll processing operations, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while overseeing payroll processes and procedures. The position involves collaboration with HR and IT stakeholders to maintain data integrity and security, and it includes managing a small team of payroll staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute payroll and rewards strategy to attract and retain talent.
  • Manage all aspects of payroll processing operations.
  • Establish and oversee payroll processes for routine processing, tax reporting, and internal financial requirements.
  • Ensure accurate wages, tax withholdings, and company deduction calculations.
  • Produce payroll-related statistical reports and ensure compliance with governmental reporting.
  • Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of the payroll team, including payroll execution.
  • Manage the organization's HRIS system and maintain data integrity and security.
  • Serve as the HR Technology subject matter expert and partner with business and IT stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement controls for data accuracy in reports and analytics.
  • Compile and report employee data including payroll, hours worked, and turnover.
  • Manage base pay structure and recommend adjustments for market competitiveness.
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc reports for compensation analysis and effectiveness assessment.
  • Manage compensation projects from design through delivery, including market pricing and pay policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding payroll disbursement.
  • Prepare payroll-related documents in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Review and resolve payroll issues and perform wage calculations.
  • Assist in payroll tax, accounting, and total rewards audits.
  • Drive payroll and total rewards improvements and automation.
  • Coordinate participation in the 401k plan administration.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Multi-state payroll experience.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including V-look Ups and Pivot Tables.
  • Ability to audit, reconcile, and balance HR/payroll data and transactions.
  • Experience with large payroll systems and third-party services management.
  • Superior problem-solving ability and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with employees at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, or Finance preferred.
