About the position

Auto-Chlor is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead our payroll operations team, contributing to our "People First" culture. This full-time in-office position is pivotal in managing and processing all bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for a diverse employee mix, including both exempt and non-exempt staff. The Payroll Manager will ensure compliance with pay rules, accurately handle salary adjustments, bonuses, and commissions, and maintain the timeliness and accuracy of payroll processing. This role involves reviewing off-cycle payrolls, processing checks, and generating payroll reports, all while addressing escalated queries from the field and resolving issues promptly. In collaboration with the HR department, the Payroll Manager will oversee new hire processes, terminations, and leaves of absence. The position requires providing regular reporting to the Controller and HR on a bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Staying compliant with federal, state, and local tax laws is crucial, as is maintaining the company's payroll compliance by keeping abreast of new legislation and training relevant departments on these changes. The Payroll Manager will also develop internal controls to enhance the quality and efficiency of payroll functions and ensure regulatory compliance. Leadership is a key component of this role, as the Payroll Manager will be responsible for training, mentoring, and providing performance feedback to the payroll team, including writing performance reviews. This position is not only about managing payroll but also about fostering a positive and collaborative work atmosphere, ensuring that all internal employee issues are addressed with a warm customer service approach.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately manage and process all bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for 40% exempt and 60% non-exempt employees, including bonuses and commissions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll, review off-cycle payrolls, and process checks accurately.
  • Handle escalated field queries and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the HR department for new hire processes, terminations, and leaves of absence.
  • Provide bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to the Controller and HR.
  • Ensure payroll tax payments comply with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Maintain payroll compliance by staying updated on new legislation and training departments accordingly.
  • Develop internal controls to ensure quality and efficiency of payroll functions and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate procedures with company leadership and field offices.
  • Provide leadership to the payroll team, including training, mentoring, and performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supervising a minimum of three direct reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and E-time in a multi-state environment highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply multi-state wage laws.
  • Track record of maintaining a positive and collaborative work atmosphere.
  • Excellent communication and discernment skills.
