About the position

Auto-Chlor is seeking a dedicated Payroll Manager to lead our payroll operations team. This role is pivotal in fostering our People First culture, where contributions and collaboration are highly valued. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for managing and processing all bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for a diverse employee mix, ensuring compliance with pay rules and regulations. This position requires a strong leader who can handle escalated queries, resolve issues promptly, and collaborate effectively with the HR department on various processes including new hires, terminations, and leaves of absence. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll, review off-cycle payrolls, and oversee the timely processing of checks and payroll reports. You will also be responsible for providing regular reporting to the Controller and HR, ensuring payroll tax payments comply with federal, state, and local tax laws. Staying updated on new legislation and educating departments on changes will be crucial to maintaining the company's payroll compliance. As a leader, you will develop internal controls to enhance the quality and efficiency of payroll functions, communicate procedures with company leadership, and provide mentorship and performance feedback to your team. This position is based in our Mountain View, CA office and requires full-time in-office work.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately manage and process all bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for 40% exempt and 60% non-exempt employees, including bonuses and commissions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll, review off-cycle payrolls, and oversee timely check processing and payroll report accuracy.
  • Handle escalated field queries and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the HR department for new hire processes, terminations, and leaves of absence.
  • Provide bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to the Controller and HR.
  • Ensure payroll tax payments comply with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Maintain the company's payroll compliance by staying updated on new legislation and educating departments on changes.
  • Develop internal controls to ensure quality and efficiency of payroll functions and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate procedures with company leadership and field offices.
  • Provide leadership to the payroll team, including training, mentoring, performance feedback, and writing performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supervising a minimum of three direct reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and E-time in a multi-state environment highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply multi-state wage laws.
  • Track record of maintaining a positive and collaborative work atmosphere with a warm customer service approach to internal employee issues.
  • Excellent communication and discernment skills.
