About the position

The Payroll Manager will oversee the payroll function within the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, ensuring compliance with payroll laws and regulations while managing payroll specialists. This role involves processing bi-weekly payroll, maintaining confidential payroll documents, and preparing reports, all while responding to employee inquiries in a timely manner. The Payroll Manager will work closely with the finance management team to ensure efficient operations of the finance bureau.

Responsibilities

• Supervise payroll specialists and oversee all payroll functions.
• File and maintain confidential payroll documents.
• Process and validate bi-weekly payroll.
• Prepare appropriate payroll reports.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
• Manage employee elected deductions and exemptions.
• Oversee position and pay changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business management from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 4 years recent work experience with government payroll.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience supervising employees.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Broad knowledge of governmental accounting standards.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and report writing software (e.g., Crystal Reports).
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferred.
• Demonstrated skill in the use of computer and office equipment.
