About the position

The Payroll Office Specialist at the University of Washington plays a critical role in executing Tier 2 payroll transactional functions within the Payroll framework. This position is responsible for ensuring the completion of payroll transactions, supporting payroll processes, and addressing escalated inquiries while contributing to a high level of customer service and continuous improvement within the payroll operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide extensive insight and direction related to payroll transactional processes, including payroll inputs, time entry corrections, and overpayment recovery.
  • Ensure completion of assigned payroll transactions in accordance with established standards.
  • Support development of internal controls and management reports based on state and federal tax regulations.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance customer services.
  • Support timely resolution of complex issues and inquiries.
  • Coordinate with other resources to address escalated inquiries as required.
  • Utilize ServiceNow to manage inquiries and issues according to established protocols.
  • Support periodic Workday update processes, including payroll testing activities.
  • Contribute to Payroll knowledge management processes, including the identification and verification of content changes.
  • Support Payroll training activities, including the development and verification of relevant content.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, economics, or a closely related field with college-level accounting courses.
  • Three years of experience working in a payroll-related role, including knowledge of payroll transactional processes, accounting standards, and taxation requirements.
  • Two years of experience processing transactions in the payroll domain.
