About the position

The Payroll Operational Excellence Team Lead at Hydro Global Business Services (GBS) is responsible for overseeing payroll processes and systems, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance in both the US and Canada. This role involves managing payroll optimization, leading digitalization and automation initiatives, and fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operational excellence in payroll service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the payroll team's activities across multiple locations delivering efficient processes and controls resulting in timely and accurate payrolls.
  • Assist with audits of internal records, tax filings, and related documentation.
  • Look for ways to improve and develop efficiencies and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for payroll processes and procedures.
  • Assist with year-end financial audit, annual insurance audits, and annual 401(k) audit preparation, and ad hoc reporting as required.
  • Perform payroll processing duties as a backup as and when needed.
  • Responsible for tracking and testing of legislative/regulatory changes, application enhancements, and system modifications.
  • Keep abreast of current and changing payroll and employment tax laws.
  • Research, determine root cause, and resolve incoming tax notices from various agencies.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset, staying adaptable to changing business dynamics and continuously evolving sourcing strategies to meet organizational needs.
  • Champion the Hydro Business System across the North America Payroll Organization.
  • Support the Head of Payroll with all special projects.

Requirements

  • BSC/BA in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in payroll related operations, with a minimum of 10 years of payroll and employment tax experience in a large, complex organization.
